Shahada (Official Video) | By Lisa Mercedez & Shy

This track reflects the journey I have been on as an artist and my recent reversion to Islam. Musically I’m still very much a Dancehall Artist, but I make whatever is good and right for me when I’m in the studio, I don’t like to limit myself as a creative. Lisa Mercedez

The UK-based, Jamaican-born dancehall artist Lisa Mercedez exciting new single “Shahada” is somewhat of a departure from her trademark sound, representing a shift in perspective as she marks her recent reversion to Islam, celebrating a personal and creative evolution.

“This track reflects the journey I have been on as an artist and my recent reversion to Islam.”

The atmospheric tracks see and artist in a fresh creative space, teaming up with Persian vocalist Shy who adds some beautiful vocal flourishes to the dark, piano-driven rap track. Lisa delivers bars which riff on her recent journey, using it as a way of expressing her newfound faith. The inspiration behind the track, she explains:

“This track reflects the journey I have been on as an artist and my recent reversion to Islam. Musically I’m still very much a Dancehall Artist, but I make whatever is good and right for me when I’m in the studio, I don’t like to limit myself as a creative.”

‘Shahada’ is the lead single dropping prior to Lisa’s Mercedez debut EP. She has been working hard in the studio securing vocals from Vybz Kartel, Nadia Rose and Ninja Man and for the May/June release.
